Services
For clarification regarding terminology (e.g. light/mechanical editing), please see the definitions and notes on the editing definitions page on this Web site.
Editing
- Light (or Mechanical) Editing: consistency in punctuation (quotation marks, ellipsis points, parentheses, etc.) capitalization, hyphenation, and use of abbreviations; basic grammar, syntax, and usage corrections (including checking spelling and definitions of words that may not adequately convey the author's message). See the full CMOS definition and our note.
- Moderate (or Substantive) Editing: rephrasing for smoothness or to eliminate ambiguity, reorganizing or tightening, and other remedial activities." [CMOS definition] See the definitions page and our note.
- Heavy/Rewrites (or Developmental) Editing: Please see the full CMOS definition. This can be a major undertaking, depending on the length and scope of the manuscript. Requests will be considered on an individual basis, depending on the editor's assessment of the amount of work to be done and the time required to do it.
Manuscript Evaluation
- PleasantValleyPress.net will be happy to look at your manuscript and provide comments and suggestions. Costs vary, depending on the length of the manuscript and the amount of feedback you would like.
Book Design
- Interior Design: Limited to books that do not require indexing, unless you are willing to hire a professional indexer. PleasantValleyPress does not have a professional indexer on staff and, at this time, cannot make recommendations.
- Cover Design: We are offering cover design services through a third party, Fred SanFilipo. You can view a sample of Fred's work on the Martha's Vine Web site, and I hope to soon have additional samples. Fred is located in Rochester, NY and can be contacted by email at fsanflip@rochester.rr.com
Print-on-Demand Publishing
Would be happy to read your manuscript, provide some feedback, and consider it for publication. Please use the form on the contact page to initiate a conversation about the services we might be able to provide.
NOTE: Before submitting manuscripts, please download and read our Submission Guidelines. While we are willing to have a look at manuscripts that do not comply with submission guidelines, we will probably not accept them for publication until they meet our requirements. At this time, we will accept manuscripts submitted by e-mail, if you have notified PleasantValleyPress.net that you'd like to submit your book and get our okay first.
Web Site Design
- Limited fairly basic Web site design, similar to this site: CSS-based, with your choice of layout, text options (font-face, color, etc), and a graphic text banner or logo, etc.
- Save some money by inserting your own content (requires either a program like Dreamweaver or enough familiarity with CSS and XHTML to know how to insert text and styles into a text document).
- For an extra charge, we will add and format content for you.
- Either way... you must provide the content and tell us which page it should go on.
